Consciousness is a mental and psychological phenomenon that has many interpretations and because it is difficult to pin down, verges on the mystical.
For practioners of Influential Leadership, it is not magical at all, it is straightforward.
Leadership consciousness is the alert exercising of the capacity to be present in our lived life, and aware of ourselves and the context we live in, so we can take advantage of Leadership Moments.
If you want a soundbite version… Leadership consciousness is being socially switched on!
Furthermore, consciousness is more than being conscious, which is merely not being asleep…
I like the way Stephen Hawking puts it:
I think the brain is essentially a computer and consciousness is like a computer program. It will cease to run when the computer is turned off.
Think of the on/off switch as the door to Leadership—to exercise Leadership, we must be switched on.
There are four levels of consciousness in the Hierarchy of Consciousness.
Only Aware Consciousness, at the Apex, opens the door to Influential Leadership.
At the highest level of human functioning—Leadership—people exercise an awareness of their consciousness.
The others do not count.

- Defines our Leadership Purpose.
- Powers our self-efficacy that triggers the initiation of our Social Agency to think, choose and act.
- Fashions our Self-awareness.
- Develops our curiosity that leads to our Questioning.
- Presides over our Thoughtfulness.
- Enables us to see and hear and sense Leadership Moments.
- Keeps our leadership Purpose aligned with our Leadership processes so that the intention and Outcomes are consistent.
- Enables our Leadership ACTIVISM
It is only with Leadership consciousness that there can be Leadership.
Yes, we must gather the Leadership tools and acquire the knowledge, but if we do not develop our Leadership consciousness it is all for naught.
The way to obtain Leadership consciousness is to practice it through the Influential Leadership System. Only in this way does it become an Apex Skill.
