The full title of Alpha is the Alpha Influential Leadership Activation Programme.
Quite a mouthful; but let us digest just one word this week – activism.
I highlight two threads we can pull from the term:
- Everyone is a potential influential leader. It is a pure democratic social construct as it only caters for self-exclusion. A person chooses on the basis of their social agency; to lead or not. The aim of Alpha is to activate potential leaders to be actual leaders. This is done through a process of learning, gaining knowledge, and developing skills, which enable the practice of influential leadership.
- The second thread emphasises the action, the doing, of leadership to change peoples’ lives for the better. Influential leadership goes beyond what we think, imagine and say; it is about what we do. Influential leadership is not an armchair movement.
So, when we bring the two threads together, we can fall in line with Dr. Seuss’ advice that each of us must care an awful lot to be willing to act, to change things for the better.
Let the ‘cat out of the bag’ that you are an influential leadership activist!
