This is the third Leadership Note in a series on being SMART rather than surrendering to stupidity (or being helpless, or letting bandits prevail).
Recap
- Being stupid on occasion is different from stupidity, which is an ongoing and systemic behavioural condition.
- Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Theory of Stupidity warns of the hazards and risks for individuals and society when stupidity reigns. We see much of this about.
- We then found fourteen reasons why being SMART is unconditionally better than stupidity…
- Furthermore, according to Carlo Cipolla people can be characterised into four groups depending on their behaviours and the outcomes they produce. Let us not imagine that these are neat baskets; each person’s behaviour drapes across more than one, to differing degrees.
- Legacy forms of leadership comfortably fit with banditry and stupidity—behaviours that prescribe zero-sum outcomes and cultivate irrationality, chaos and danger.
- The helpless approximate Influential Leadership’s notion of “the indifferent”, who also have a dose of stupidity.
Influential Leadership: A Smart Software Update
Every computer or smartphone needs regular software updates—even the top of the range fastest ones—if they are to remain as productive as possible.
Think of the Influential Leadership System as Leadership software that is fit and compelling for the 21st century.
The Influential Leadership System’s architecture embodies win-win DNA, and it is intended to and must create benefits for those who chooses to lead, and all who are in their sphere of influence.
Additionally, the Influential Leadership System process is predicated on three sequential phases, namely: (i) critical thinking, (ii) smart choices and (iii) productive outcomes.
To move beyond legacy leadership, we need an infusion of new SMART Leadership software!
To function systematically in the SMART quadrant (being a win-winner) is a learned skill.
Those of us who have completed the Alpha journey, and who have assiduously practiced Influential Leadership at every Leadership Moment, will attest to the power of being SMART.
If you have not yet been on the Alpha Programme, you are invited to update your Leadership software.
If you have been on the Alpha journey, the only way to refresh your Leadership is to practice it at every Leadership Moment.
I’d be pleased to hear from you, either way.
