Philosophy
Having a Leadership Philosophy is our anchor.
It is the strategic paradigm that sets our trajectory.
Our Philosophy is the foundation on which we build everything else, including our principles (values) and behaviours.
It is the way we see ourselves and others, and the way we treat all things in the universe.
Let us imagine that all of us, from people in great positions of power to the least of us, applied the Influential Leadership Philosophy at our Leadership Moments, would we have…
- Palestinians vs. Israelis?
- Muslims vs. Jews?
- Sunni vs. Shia?
- Christians vs. Muslims?
- Buddhists vs. Muslims?
- Catholics vs. Protestants?
- Russians vs. Ukrainians?
- Europe vs. Russia?
- The ‘West’ vs. the ‘East’?
- Colonised vs. Colonisers
- North vs. South?
- The USA vs. Iran, China, DPRK, Russia, Cuba…?
- The wealthy vs. the poor?
- Communism vs. Capitalism?
- The haves vs. the have-nots?
- White folk vs. Black folk?
- The powerful vs. the ‘powerless’?
- Humans vs. the environment?
- The present vs. the future?
The fundamental reason that humans have unproductive outcomes, at a personal and at collective levels, is either an absence of a philosophy or one that motivates and rationalises predatory and zero-sum behaviours.
We need only look at the madness of the past week in the Middle East.
Two groups of people that have the same ancestors and who have shared history for millennia, insist on killing each other by the hundreds at a time.
The past wrongs, injustices, retributions and hurts cannot be remedied by creating new wrongs.
If our actions are based on the philosophy of taking an eye-for-an-eye (or ten eyes for an eye) we all end up blind.
We even sow the seeds of blindness for the next generations.
Whatever the history has been until now—the bread cannot be unbaked—but we can choose to shape a better future based on a productive philosophy.
If all sides accept that the quality and value of their life is inseparable from the lives of others, then they would not choose war and murder and destruction.
More of the same forever or a change in philosophy?
Yes, there is a better way.
If each of us is to enjoy a better life, we must start with a productive philosophy.
