Leadership Moments
The Influential Leadership System has eight primary architectural elements, one of which is Leadership Moments.
Leadership Moments are the events, conditions or circumstances that ACTIVATE the practice of Influential Leadership.
Leadership Moments happen all the time, in every facet of our lives—in our relationships, families, teams, schools, communities, workspaces, countries and globally.
Leadership Moments happen at smaller and greater scale—some are at a tactical level and others are strategic.
This week we touch on just two, the GREATEST and the GRAVEST.
Life and death.
The creation of life, and the taking of life.
Both are strategic—they both demand the highest level of attention to the practice of Influential Leadership!
Why?
For two reasons:
- They are at the heart of humanity—they are fundamental to why we argue that our species is different, and better.
- The absence of Influential Leadership in such moments.
Creating Life
Did you know that four babies are born every second?
That is about 146 million births in the past year.
The implication is that more than 300 million people were engaged in the creation or attempted creation of a human life during this time.
Is there a greater Leadership Moment than the consideration of bringing a life into being?
I reckon not.
Do I see Influential Leadership being practiced?
Not much.
Humans appear to bring lives into the world as easily as they buy a pair of shoes…
Taking Life
About 500,000 people are killed at the hands of other humans (2021).
This does not include those killed in wars.
Does such a number suggest that we apply Influential Leadership in our relations with our fellow humans?
Not much.
Let us tie up the foundation of a Leadership Moment with the PURPOSE of Influential Leadership, which is:
To influence and shape life events, conditions and circumstances for the betterment of people’s lives.
Almost every human will face the Greatest Leadership Moment—creating life.
Hopefully, few of us will face the Gravest Leadership Moment—ending a life.
However, every human who reaches their age of reason will face endless Leadership Moments of varying scale throughout their lives.
Are you applying your Social Agency to influence and shape your and others’ lives for the better?
Yes, Influential Leadership equips us, but we must still practice it.
At each Leadership Moment—no matter the scale—think critically, choose smartly and act productively.
You and others will be rewarded if you do.
