Leadership is a Verb
Leadership builds up, not down.
It is active, not passive,
Leadership brings a smile, not a frown.
Leadership gives credit, not blame.
It casts vision, not doubt,
Leadership drives change, not same.
Leadership adds value, not clutter.
It sees causes, not symptoms,
Leadership ignites passion, not a sputter.
Leadership helps you swim, not drown.
It is inspiring, not expiring,
Leadership is a verb, not a noun.

Time has its own rhythm outside of our calendars and clocks.
These are our measly attempts to make sense of time, and to calibrate our comings and goings to its movement, ever forward.
So, as theoretical as the first day of January 2024 might be, it is the start of some Earthlings’ new calendar year and a time for new beginnings.
Our first Leadership Weekly Note of 2024 offers a starting point for a Year of Leadership Activism, a year to gain and develop our action-oriented Apex Skillset.
Lee Colan’s clever transformation of leadership from a noun to a verb is a great starting point for our Year of Leadership Activism.
(BTW. Those of you who have been on the Alpha Programme will recall Colan’s words from Part 1 in which we set up working definitions of our keywords and ideas.)
What is it that we can take out of leadership as a verb to drive our Activism in 2024?
There are three mandatory actions that define a person as an Influential Leadership Activists, and Apex Skilled:
#1. You need to learn the Influential Leadership System.
#2. You must choose to practice Influential Leadership.
#3. You have to actively promote the Influential Leadership System, wherever you are.
So, if you have completed the Alpha Programme, that is a great start!
If you have learned the Influential Leadership System and you practice it, you are almost Apex Skilled.
However, if you have learned it, practice it and advocate it in every conversation, then you are surely Apex Skilled!
Influential Leadership is indeed a VERB—it is in the action and advocacy that we become Influential Leadership Activists and thus Apex Skilled.
After all, Alpha’s full name is the Influential Leadership Activation Programme…
- If you have not yet completed the Alpha Programme—now is the time, get your Apex Skillset.
- If you have completed Alpha, and are living it—you are a rising star.
- If you advocate it too—you are Apex Skilled. You are doing great!
Make 2024 your year of Leadership Activism.
